PSM-500 Satellite Modem

The PSM-500 is Datum Systems' newest modem intended to replace and surpass the features and performance of the very popular PSM-4900. The PSM-500 Satellite Modem is manufactured for System Integrators and is available with private labeling for volume customers.

This newly designed modem uses all of Datum Systems proprietary design technology implemented with the latest available parts to achieve the best performance and reliability possible at one of the lowest costs on the market.

The PSM-500 is a variable data rate programmable satellite modem with 70 MHz IF. It is available in 3 firmware upgradeable feature sets, the M505, M511 and M523. The digital modem is programmable for either BPSK or QPSK operation and can be used in a wide variety of system configurations. The standard PSM-4900 includes integral Viterbi and Reed-Solomon Forward Error Correction, programmable data interfaces and built-in 1:1 redundancy capability. It now includes as standard an IBS Multiplexer with AUPC, overhead channel(s) and Remote Modem Control. New options include a 16k Block high performance Turbo Product Codes FEC. External interface converters are available for G.703 T1 or E1.

Key Benefits

bulletMore "Bang for the Buck" than any modem on the market.
bulletFirmware Upgradeable to 8PSK/TCM and 16QAM Modulation modes.
bulletPerformance within 0.3 dB of theoretical.
bulletNEW low cost, high performance Turbo Products Codes FEC available. See performance in Tech Note 6
bulletData rate programmable from 1200 bps to 29.52 Mbps in 1 bps increments, depending on modulation and feature set installed.
bulletIF frequency programmable from 50 to 90 MHz in 1Hz increments. Optional 100 to 180 MHz IF Available.
bulletDSP for fast acquisition of 315 milli-seconds at 9.6 kbps QPSK, 196 milli-seconds at 16 kbps QPSK.
bulletAdded programmability for compatibility with virtually any equipment complement.
bulletEight user defined complete configurations can be stored and recalled.
bulletNew Programmable IBS Multiplexer and Reed-Solomon Codec are built in - standard on all units.
bulletBuilt-in independent transmit and receive BERT. The BERT can now serve as a DTE test set on the line side.
bulletBuilt-in 1:1 redundancy capabilities and logic requiring only an external splitter/combiner (for RF) and a "Y" cable for data.
bullet1 U rack mount unit with complete front panel and remote control.
bulletDesigned to accept newer interfaces and options, like Turbo Product Codes FEC and Ethernet Data Interfaces.
